April 23 is observed every year as English Language Day.
English is special because it is currently the lingua franca of the world, that is, the language used globally by people when they wish to communicate with people who speak different tongues than themselves, or the language formal business is conducted in universally. For professional success in today’s world, the ability to communicate in English is critical.
‘The English language is nobody’s special property. It is the property of the imagination: it is the property of the language itself.’ Derek Walcott
Happy English Language Day!
