World Telecommunication and Information Society Day is observed to celebrate the social changes brought by the Internet and communication technologies, and the advantages they bring. We can now communicate with people thousands of miles away in the blink of an eye. Entire corporations can be run without any of the employees ever having to be in even the same time zone, let alone the same building. Critical, even lifesaving, information can be conveyed within seconds. Information technology has undoubtedly changed our world, and for the better.
