Is Western Civilization really the champion of human rights?

On Tuesday, May 6, 2025, Salim Habib University hosted a thought-provoking Panel Discussion designed to explore the nuanced depths of the question posed above.

The invigorating discussion, organized by our Character Building Society, in collaboration with the Public Speaking Society, was part of the first-ever volume of SHU TALKS, an initiative consisting of a series of intellectual discussions that will allow experts to share varying perspectives and raise awareness on pressing global issues.

Esteemed panelists included Mr. Sabir Abu Maryam, Secretary General, Palestine Foundation Pakistan, Mr. Abdullah Jamal, Social Activist, Journalist & Public Speaker, and Mr. Wajih Uddin, Youth Engagement Advocate, while Mr. Hurr Abbas, President Public Speaking Society, SHU, moderated the session.

An interactive Q/A session further enriched the event. Participants engaged with the panelists and gained insights into the role of social media in spreading accurate information, as well as the importance of youth involvement in addressing societal and global issues.
