Event Details

On Tuesday, September 2, 2025, the second session of the Business Programs Curriculum Review series was held at SHU campus. Leading experts from industry and academia came together to finalize the review of the Accounting and Finance curriculum. The primary objective was to align the courses with evolving industry trends and the standards of professional bodies such as ACCA, ICAP, ICMA, and CFA.

Professor Mohammad Ekhlaque opened the session by welcoming the participants and outlining the rationale and process behind the review. He emphasized that the goal of this collaborative approach is to ensure SHU students are equipped with a strong foundation in theory, complemented by practical, industry-relevant skills. Ahead of the meeting, course outlines were shared with selected experts from academia and industry—chosen for their areas of specialization—who were asked to provide feedback on content relevance, breadth and depth, sequencing, and potential overlaps. Based on their input, all courses were revised or redesigned to meet contemporary standards.

Vice Chancellor Dr Syed Irfan Hyder spoke about the challenges facing higher education institutions and highlighted the crucial role industry can play in addressing them. Participants shared their insights and expressed appreciation for SHU’s proactive engagement with industry, noting that the initiative reflects the university’s commitment to bridging academia and practice while preparing students for future success. Registrar Dr Mohammad Hussain Habib further suggested that the university could support the industry through research and specialized training.

In closing, Dean Dr Amanat A. Jalbani thanked the participants for their valuable contributions and outlined the next steps to ensure continuous improvement of the curriculum.
