World Polio Day, observed annually on October 24 by the World Health Organization (WHO), raises awareness of polio and celebrates the efforts that have been made and are still being made to eradicate it from the world.Polio, an extremely harmful disease that usually affects children under the age of five through the spread of the contagious poliovirus and leads to irreversible paralysis and/or death, can only be stopped via vaccination. This is why World Polio Day is important, as it spreads knowledge regarding polio and its vaccine and thus saves lives.Through effective vaccination, polio is now almost gone from the world!
