Biography
Prof. Dr. Muhammad Asif Shamim is a distinguished economist, strategic policy advisor, and senior academic leader currently serving as Professor, Faculty of Management Sciences; Associate Dean (Social Sciences & Humanities); Head of Graduate Studies; and Director of the Centre for Policy Research & Sustainability (CPRS) at Salim Habib University. He is a Member of the Policy Advisory Board of the Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce & Industry and serving on the Board of the Virtual University of Pakistan.
With over 20 years of distinguished experience across academia, banking, and chambers of commerce, Prof. Shamim has played a pivotal role in strengthening industry–academia collaboration and policy engagement. He has actively developed multiple academic–industry clusters and corporate advisory linkages, fostering applied research, innovation ecosystems, and institutional partnerships.
He holds a Post-Doctorate from University of Malaysia Perlis, a Ph.D. in Applied Economics from the Applied Economics Research Centre, University of Karachi, and an MS in Economics from the Institute of Business Administration (IBA Karachi). Over the past two decades, he has provided academic and strategic leadership at leading institutions including Iqra University and Bahria University, spearheading graduate programs, research initiatives, and institutional reforms.
An accomplished scholar with an extensive portfolio of publications in WoS and Scopus-indexed journals (Q1–Q3), his research spans climate economics, sustainable development, international trade, financial markets, governance systems, green innovation, artificial intelligence, fintech, and the Blue Economy. He possesses specialized expertise in Blue Economy frameworks and Integrated Coastal Management (ICM), contributing to discourse on maritime sustainability and coastal economic development.
A nationally recognized economic analyst, he frequently provides expert commentary on Pakistan Television and other electronic media platforms. Prof. Shamim’s leadership reflects a rare integration of academic rigor, policy insight, and strategic institutional vision positioning him as a prominent voice in advancing sustainable economic transformation and global competitiveness.
Teaching Experience
He teaches and supervises undergraduate and graduate students across economics, finance, and business. His teaching portfolio reflects strong expertise in both core and advanced courses.
