Thalassemia Awareness Session in commemoration of World Thalassemia Day

On Monday, May 11, 2026, the Faculty of Pharmacy, Salim Habib University, in collaboration with its departmental society PharmDeeS, the SHU Character Building Society (CBS), and the Afzaal Memorial Thalassemia Foundation (AMTF), organized a Thalassemia Awareness Session, being held in commemoration of World Thalassemia Day, observed annually on May 8.

The session, which aimed to raise awareness of this prevalent genetic blood disorder and promote the importance of screening and prevention, featured inspiring stories from thalassemia survivors, an insightful panel discussion, and a blood donation drive that encouraged students and attendees to contribute to a meaningful cause.

From AMTF, Dr. Asim Qidwar, Founder & CEO, Dr. Waqar Khalil, Deputy Director, Clinical Lab Diagnostics & Blood Bank, and Ms. Kashaf Shiekh, Manager, Pharmacy, graced the event with their presence and shared valuable insights on awareness, treatment, and patient care. Notably present from SHU were Prof. Dr. Irfan Hyder, Vice Chancellor, Prof. Dr. Noor Kamil, Dean, Faculty of Pharmacy, along with faculty members and students from the Faculty of Pharmacy.
