The Centre for Policy Research & Sustainability at Salim Habib University organized a high-level Pre-Budget Panel Discussion titled From Global Crises to National Policy: Shaping Pakistan’s Fiscal Budget 2026–2027, on Monday, May 25, 2026, at Auditorium 1, Fatima Business School.

The event brought together economists, industrialists, policymakers, diplomats, parliamentarians, academia, business leaders, and financial experts to deliberate on Pakistan’s economic challenges and present recommendations for the upcoming Federal Budget 2026–27.

The Chief Guest of the event was Mr. Herman Hardynata Ahmad, Consulate General of Malaysia in Karachi. Distinguished panelists and Guests of Honor included Ms. Irum Tanveer, Director General, Press Information Department, Dr. Rafique ur Rehman Memon, Commissioner, FBR, Mr. Ikram Rajput, President, KATI, Mr. Sanjeewa Pattiwila, Consulate General of Sri Lanka in Karachi, Mr. M. Hanif Gohar, Chairman, Air Karachi and CEO Gohar Group of Companies, Dr. Mian Zahid Hussain, Chairman, FPCCI Policy Advisory Board and Former Minister IT Sindh, Mr. Muhammad Daniyal, MPA, Sindh Assembly, Mr. Ateeq ur Rehman, Economic and Financial Analyst, Brig. Syed Karar Hussain, Defense Analyst, Mr. Junaid Naqi, Former President, KATI, and Mr. Rashid Siddiqui, Chairman, Karachi Business Forum.

Prof. Dr. Syed Irfan Haider, Vice Chancellor, Dr. Muhammad Hussain Habib, Registrar, and Prof. Dr. Muhammad Asif Shamim, Director, Centre for Policy Research and Sustainability, SHU, shared their perspectives on the importance of informed policymaking and sustainable economic growth.

The session concluded with a collective call for a transparent, growth-oriented, investment-friendly, and people-centric federal budget that genuinely addresses the concerns of businesses, youth, academia, industry, and the common citizens of Pakistan.
