Conduct of Library Users

Silence and Appropriate Conduct

  • Silence must be maintained at all times within the library premises to ensure a conducive study environment.
  • Group discussions are permitted only in designated areas and require prior approval from library staff.
  • Harassment, abusive or inappropriate language, disruptive behavior, loitering, or sleeping inside the library is strictly prohibited

Identification, Security & Personal Belongings

  • Users must carry and display their SHU ID card at all times and present it upon request by library staff or security personnel.
  • Library staff reserve the right to inspect personal items, including bags, notebooks, or electronic devices, at the entrance or exit for security purposes.
  • All bags and personal items must be placed on the designated racks at the entrance.
  • Users should not leave personal belongings unattended. The library will not be held responsible for any loss, theft, or damage to personal items.

Dress Code and Personal Hygiene

  • Users are expected to dress in a decent and appropriate manner; short pants are not permitted within the library.
  • Proper personal hygiene must be maintained. Strong body odors or overpowering fragrances that may cause discomfort to others are not allowed.

Food, Beverages & Mobile Phone Usage

  • Eating is strictly prohibited inside the library. Only plain drinking water is allowed.
  • Mobile phones must be kept on silent mode at all times. Making or receiving calls inside the library is not permitted.

Computers, Internet & Study Spaces

  • Library computers and internet facilities are provided solely for academic and research-related activities.
  • Accessing movies, games, social media for non-academic purposes, or objectionable content is strictly prohibited.
  • Only one user is allowed per workstation, and library furniture must not be moved or rearranged under any circumstances.
  • Seats may not be reserved; users may occupy any available seat.
  • Use of reserved floors or special study spaces requires prior approval from library administration.

Copyright Compliance

  • Users must comply with all applicable copyright laws and license agreements when copying, scanning, downloading, or printing library materials.

Feedback, Support & Penalties

  • Any complaints, suggestions, or service-related issues may be reported directly to the Librarian.
  • Violation of library rules, including harassment, misconduct, abusive language, immoral behavior, or misuse of facilities, may result in temporary or permanent suspension of library membership and access privileges.
