Standard Operating Procedures

Library Access, Facilities & User Guidelines

All students must present a valid university ID card to access library facilities. Entry is strictly not permitted without proper identification, and borrower cards are non-transferable. Users must ensure their ID cards are valid and carried at all times when using library services.

The library is a dedicated academic space; therefore, all users are required to maintain proper discipline, respect, and decorum at all times. Any form of disruptive behavior, including loud talking or misconduct, is strictly prohibited.

To support different study needs:

  • Group discussions are not allowed on the 1st and 2nd floors.
  • Dedicated group study areas on the 3rd and 4th floors of the Tariq Amin Library are available for collaborative work, assignments, and project discussions.
  • Users must follow designated zoning and use appropriate spaces accordingly.

A strict noise control policy is enforced:

  • Loud talking, shouting, clapping, singing, or any form of disturbance is not allowed.
  • Music performances, rehearsals, and playing loud audio/video content are strictly prohibited.
  • Mobile phones must be kept on silent mode, and calls should be taken outside the library.

To maintain safety and cleanliness:

  • Eating is strictly prohibited inside the library.
  • Only bottled water is allowed; all other beverages (soft drinks, juices, tea, coffee, etc.) are not permitted.
  • Users must keep the environment clean and dispose of waste responsibly.

Personal belongings remain the sole responsibility of users:

  • Items must not be left unattended at any time.
  • The library is not responsible for loss or theft.
  • Any found items will be handed over to the circulation desk for collection upon identification.

Library staff are authorized to maintain order and may request any disruptive user to leave the premises. All instructions issued by staff must be followed respectfully.

Conduct, Discipline, Security & Disciplinary Actions

All users are expected to uphold the highest standards of academic integrity, discipline, and respectful behavior while using library facilities.

The following behaviors are strictly prohibited:

  • Harassment, intimidation, or threatening behavior toward staff or students
  • Use of abusive, offensive, or inappropriate language
  • Loitering, sleeping, or misuse of library space
  • Misconduct with library staff or violation of library norms
  • Any form of damage to library property or disruption of services

Users must immediately contact the Librarian or library staff in case of any dispute, issue, or concern. The library team is available to assist with resources, services, and general guidance. Suggestions for improvement are always welcome.

Violation of library rules may result in disciplinary action, which can include:

  • Warnings
  • Suspension of library membership
  • Cancellation of library privileges
  • Penalty or referral to university disciplinary authorities

By entering the library premises, all users agree to comply with these SOPs. The library reserves the right to update or modify rules to ensure a safe, respectful, and productive academic environment.
